i'm with the san francisco department of emergency management. the item is the annual urban area security grant the u.s. department of homeland security grants to the entire bay area region. it is in front of you today. as you know, san francisco is the fiscal agent for the bay area, uasi. the total grant is approximately 22 million. the grant supports projects and public safety agencies throughout the bay area. the money is not just for san francisco; it also funds the almeda sheriff, police department, san jose police, santa cruz county fire department, the fremont fire department and many other public safety agencies. here in san francisco the grant will fund planners at my agency, department of emergency management. it will fund radio communications equipment for the police department and department of public health. apparatus for the fire department. supplies and equipment and things many first-respond errs use in san francisco . this resolution creates no new positions in san francisco and there are no matching funds required by the city. t

one of the fun things about san francisco and we always have something going on. we had the beta breakers and break the city in half for the runners and manage the emergency response for that. we had the gollen gate anniversary and remember that off the bridge and the u.s. open and the pride parade. and then we took a brief break in july and in august started with some of our exercising as part of the fleet week activity and i highlight some of those here, so with the america cup's races which we had been planning for starting at the beginning of the year. three successful exercises in preparation for the first week of racing that took place in august and continued in october and as the mayor mentioned october was incredibly busy for us with america's cup and the fleet week activities we had going on, to additional exercises. we had a senior leader seminar and a disaster aid presentation on marina green. other things that took place that the mayor mentioned the bluegrass and castro street parade and a finer and giants game and lead to the playoffs and all happened

sure we work together as a region as opposed to just san francisco. so there is no more fragmentation of responsibility. the other new thing we came up with is an actual calendar. you are familiar with zone enforcement. now we have an actual calendar for thursday through sunday and what it does, i personally do the calendar, i include the specialized units like the hondas, the solos, the tactical units, day watch and night watch and the violence reduction teams and gang task force. and the calendar, literally i assume people tote zones and assign people to those areas both days and nights and the supervisor who is on screen we have their cell phone number right on the calendar. so if something happens or if they need information from me, i can immediately send it to them. for example, just using it as an example, violence in the mission. what had happened was many of the officers, they have a general idea of location where the gang ipbs department "can you remembered, i was able to print out and send them the maps of the area and have the tack nick ca
